the process for printing directly onto retractable badge reels is called pad printing. This is mainly for the 2120-31xx, 2120-32xx series and some 2120-3300's. The 2120-3xxx series used for printing has a white hard plastic insert instead of a mill finish aluminum insert. This accepts a 1 or 2 color imprint very nicely. This printing method is not for imprints with tight registration. (see epoxy digital dome for those) For the 2120-3300 badge reels which are black on the front, imprinting can be done directly on these, but only if the image contrasts with the black background. Not all imprints will work favorably with the 2120-3300 badge reels. The 2120-340x can not be directly imprinted as it has a recessed casing. The 2120-40xx series has a slightly rough recessed 1-1/4" area which should not be silk screened or pad printed. The tendency is for a spotty coverage as it is like printing on sandpaper. For those badge reels, a 1-1/4" digital dome is recommended as it will fit into the recessed area perfectly.
